Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus visited Japan last week to speak at important conferences. On 1st day of his visit, he delivered special lecture commemorating the publishing of “A World of Three Zeros on the occasion of Bijuku’s 13th anniversary” at Kyoto International Conference Center, Kyoto where eleven hundred trainee make-up artists and their trainers gathered at Kyoto International Conference Center to listen directly to Professor Yunus and discuss the opportunity to be more useful to society. On behalf of the host Mr. Hiroshi Uchida, the founder and President of “Bijuku", the school that trains the students, reported that there are many Japanese women suffer from inferiority complex about their own beauty. Professor Yunus congratulated President Uchida for having trained more than 7000 women through their training school. Professor Yunus encouraged them to consider extending their work to other countries. Bangladesh can be one example where the demand of quality beauty parlor is growing day by day. There are cases where social businesses have been created through Nobin program where the some ladies are operating beauty parlors in rural areas.

Later on that day, Professor Yunus had a formal meeting with Mr. Daisaku Kadokawa, Mayor of Kyoto City attended by top officials of the city. This business meeting was held in the presence of significant local influencers. This was arranged to discuss how Kyoto can become a social business city. Professor Yunus on the same day delivered an exclusive lecture on “How to apply social business to corporate strategy” to CEOs  in Kyoto  already involved or interested in starting social business following Yunus principles.

On March 25,  Prof. Yunus delivered a lecture on  Global Futurology - How to solve social issues with socially conscious aspiration at Kyoto International Conference Center where  500 elementary, high school and university students attended, and specially selected out of 20,000 school students.  Later he spoke at a panel on  “Transformation to Social Business for the survival in the 21st Century” at the same centre.

The Keynote Lecture on "World of Three Zeros" by Professor Yunus at United Nation University, Tokyo was attended by 300 business executives / young entrepreneurs.  Professor Yunus inspired young socially conscious leaders who come from different specialized field in Japan and India discuss how they can work together to create collective impact in order to transform existing society  into  a world of three zeros. 

On the next day,  Professor  Yunus had a meeting with Sen Sousitsu, Master of Ura-Senke at Ark Mori Building, Akasaka, Tokyo which was an interview style discussions between Prof. Muhammad Yunus and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Sen Genshitsu (Sen Soshitsu XV).

Professor Yunus visited Hiroshima and attended meeting with Mayor of Hiroshima City and the Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture. The Mayor read out a formal citation in the presence of members of media welcoming Professor Yunus to his city and elaborating city’s desire to learn from the examples Professor Yunus which he created around the world.  He delivered a speech at Hiroshima University to mark the publication of the Japanese translation of his new book. He was formally appointed as a “Distinguished Professor” at the university. During his visit to Hiroshima, Professor Yunus also paid respects at the Hiroshima Peace Park laying a wreath at the site where thousands died during the bombings. He was made as an ‘Honorary Advisor’ for the Peace Center.

Professor Yunus was chief guest of “Yunus Family Conference” arranged by Yoshimoto Kogyo Co. of Japan, where social business practitioners and enthusiasts joined from all around Japan. Professor Yunus formally launched the Yunus Yoshimoto Social Action (yySA), a new Japanese social business joint venture at the conference. Yoshimoto Kogyo Co., Ltd is a major Japanese entertainment conglomerate, which was founded in 1912. They manage over 6000 comedians in 47 prefectures of Japan. The social business will focus on solving social problems such as isolation, depression and ills related to aging in Japan.

During his visit NHK, Japan's largest broadcasting organization interviewed Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus during his trip featuring in their evening news in a long segment his life and work. His visit was also covered by presitigious dailies such as the Asahi Shimbun and Japan Times.
